Apologies: Elspeth Davis Ralph Whiting Mike Goldsworthy Alan Smith Bob Langton Pete Brewer Jacqui Ward ________________________________________________________________________
PK welcomed Gary Colosimo to the meeting. Gary has replaced Ted Edgar as Heywood Practice Manager and his area of special interest will be health matters in the parish.
Agreed as an accurate record.
PK congratulated Gerry Hunt for his excellent work on the North Somerset Life article which showed the parish in the sunniest of lights. Special mention also went to Liz Milner for her excellent photography which is also helping to display the features of the parish in a very positive way.
PK confessed that he had not progressed his discussions with Ian Hawkins ref disability awareness but would do so by the next meeting.
Mike Goldsworthy was still having difficulties with establishing the bank account and if there is no movement by the end of June we will switch to the CO-OP as suggested by Pete Milner.
Brian Murphy suggested that we used the £200 grant from Quartet for an AV presentation which could be attached to the website activities. AGREED.
Two funding requests had been received one from the Resources Centre and one from Rhian Tooker. The Resources Centre requested £2,520 for 12 sessions for a youth drop-in service to run over the summer. There was strong concern registered about the vagueness of the submission and also that full support of this request would leave no funds for future initiatives during the financial year. AGREED; PK and FG to meet Kirsty Claxton and Pete Brewer to discuss the details of the submission.
Rhian Tooker explained that her request was for support for the National Day of Play on August 6th. She has plans for a day of activities on the village green and already has funding from other quarters. AGREED ;The meeting was very keen to support this initiative and recommended full support. (Rhian indicated that the level of support would be £250-£500.)
Pete Milner urged caution that we should not use all funds before the summer in case other worthy requests are received later in the year.
Sue Tuckwell reported that she was “out and about “on Fairtrade concentrating especially on talking to businesses.
Jenny Billington reported continuing progress on Pill in Bloom with new planters by the mural; fire station replanting; and responsibility for the parish trough planter opposite St. George's Church.
Rhian Tooker reported excellent success on the “Mothers and Daughters Day” and “Dads and Lads Day”. These days were specially designed to give separated family members time together and the photos were obvious evidence of very happy and worthwhile experiences. The CF was very keen to support such ventures in the future. Rhian also reported that a full timetable of holiday partnership activities will be published shortly.
Maddy Bickle reported that the cotton bags had gone fantastically well and were well supported all round. The group is now looking into other energy saving ideas.
Pete Milner reported that the path along the riverbank has been opened and permission for a seat has been granted. He explained that the healthy walking initiative is progressing well and the group is examining ways in which some local routes-eg to The Bottoms, along the river – could have illustration boards and link with the “Go for Life”( with the issue of free pedometers) initiative possibly through the Heywood surgery. He will explore this further with Gary Colosimo.
Pete also explained that some “Transition” ideas are being discussed by Jill Coleman with a view to sharing them at a village presentation.
Ivor King reported good progress on footpath clearance and explained that the group was charged with ensuring that paths in area 64 section 8 were kept accessible for public use.
Gerald Ashley expressed his pleasure at seeing the playpod in action and work on the MUGA starting. This was a clear success of the Parish Plan.
Monday 29th September at 7.30pm in the Community Centre.
Agreed that the agenda should concentrate on those areas in the Parish Plan where little progress has so far been made viz Traffic and Transport; Disability Awareness; Business involvement; Parish presentation for 2009.
Meeting ended at 8.30pm. Paul Kent 30-06-08 |
